How to update the software on my Samsung smartphone or tablet using Samsung Kies


Available software updates:

The Samsung Galaxy S II 4G has a new update for the Android operating system. Check which version you currently have.

Before you begin the software update:

Please note that Samsung Kies does not automatically back up your data (contacts, calendar, photos and other files). Please back up all of your important information manually before proceeding with the update below, or your data will be lost.

To back up the data on your Samsung smartphone or tablet:

  1. If you have not already done so, download and install Samsung Kies on your computer.
  2. Run the Samsung Kies program.
  3. Connect your Samsung device to your PC.
  4. Once connected, your device name/model will appear on the left side of the screen.
  5. Click on the name/model of your device (e.g. GT-I9000M)

To update the software on your Samsung smartphone or tablet:

  1. Run the Samsung Kies program.
  2. Connect your Samsung device to your PC.
  3. Once Samsung Kies recognizes the device, a pop-up window will alert you that there is a software update available. Click on Update.

    Note: the pop-up will only appear if an update is required. If the pop-up does not appear, you do not need to update your software.

 

  • The software update will begin. The entire process can take up to 60 minutes and you will not be able to use your device. Do not disconnect your device until the update is complete.
  • When the update is complete, the device will reboot. Click Confirm to exit Samsung Kies.
